Doug is a high-profile media and crisis strategist known for his ability to defend and promote his clients through integrated communications. A widely quoted political and social commentator, he has extensive connections in print and broadcast journalism, a network that provides his clients with unparalleled media access.
Doug’s ability to produce results reflects nearly four decades of public affairs experience in government, business and politics, including his years as a spokesman in the Reagan Administration. His White House roles included spokesman for domestic issues and speechwriter in the Office of Political Affairs, where he worked with legendary Republican strategists Ed Rollins, Lyn Nofziger and Lee Atwater. Elmets also served as executive assistant to President Reagan’s director of communications, David Gergen. His other national public service roles included working in the House and Senate and as deputy assistant secretary for external affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy.
In the private sector, Doug managed California government and public relations for oil giant ARCO before launching Elmets Communications in 1996. With his political acumen, coalition-building talents and knack for messaging, Doug and his team are trusted by a broad spectrum of clients, including trade associations, Fortune 500 companies, municipalities, political candidates, real estate and development firms, nonprofits, and Native American tribes.
Active in philanthropy, Doug serves on the board of directors of Eskaton, the largest nonprofit community-based organization serving seniors in the Northern California and is the former chairman of the board of directors of KVIE television, Sacramento’s public television station. Past charitable roles include serving on the boards of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America, the Crocker Art Museum, and the Lighthouse Family Counseling and Resource Center.
A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Doug received his B.A. degree with honors from the University of Iowa and attended the University of Southern California MBA Program. Married with three children, he is listed in Who’s Who in the World and was named one of the 100 Most Powerful and Influential People in the Sacramento region by Sacramento Magazine.
In 2013, Elmets won an Emmy Award as a producer of the award-winning documentary, Defending the Homeland: Native American Veterans in the United States Armed Forces.
Executive Vice President
Miranda holds widespread experience in public relations, marketing, social media and integrated communications. A master multi-tasker, Miranda has served as the creative force behind developing and implementing a number of strategic communication initiatives and public relations campaigns.
She excels in media relations and has etched an enviable track record of securing coverage and op-ed placements for clients in high-level broadcast and print media. Miranda has led multiple successful rebranding campaigns and is passionate about crisis communications and social media strategizing.
Earlier in her career Miranda was part of the public relations team at Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region. There, she worked closely with patients, employees and medical professionals to develop positive, proactive stories on specialty health services and patient procedures.
Miranda graduated cum laude from California State University, Sacramento with a degree in Journalism and a minor in Communications/Public Relations.
Jenifer worked for more than 20 years as a staff writer for the Los Angeles Times, where her coverage ranged from legal affairs to the environment, agriculture, state government and water policy. As bureau chief in San Francisco, she covered the California Supreme Court, and she spent 13 years in the Times’ state capital bureau, covering the Legislature, the Wilson, Davis and Schwarzenegger administrations and a variety of policy areas. She also was a member of the LA Times’ 1992 presidential campaign team.
Jenifer’s strong writing vaults clients onto national and state level opinion pages and drives the firm’s messaging prowess. The recipient of numerous journalism awards, she was a member of the LA Times team that won the 1993 Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the Los Angeles riots. Prior to joining the Times, Jenifer worked for two smaller newspapers and a San Francisco-based wire service.
Her charitable work includes serving as a career mentor at Women’s Empowerment, a nonprofit that helps women transition from homelessness to stable employment. She has a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of California, San Diego, and is fluent in French.
Andrew is a seasoned marketing and publicity strategist who has worked in multiple industries, helping companies build both regional and national campaigns that target a broad spectrum of audiences.
For the majority of his career Andrew has overseen marketing and promotional campaigns for movie studios in Los Angeles and New York, including Fox Searchlight Pictures, Broad Green Pictures and A24. His most notable work has been on behalf of award winning films, including Birdman, 12 Years a Slave, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Lady Bird.
Among other contributions, Andrew provides a creative lens for the Elmets team, devising effective and unique brand messaging and managing social media advertising. He helps to ensure that clients are engaging core demographics through targeted content and using powerful storytelling.
Andrew graduated from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School of Communication.
Michael is a graphic designer with nearly two decades of experience working in the graphic design, advertising, and marketing industries.
With a passion for developing clear impactful messages, Michael works with our clients to mold their vision into a unique, compelling, visual strategy that helps them reach their goals.
Prior to joining the Elmets Communication team, Michael built award-winning visual communications for an array of businesses and organizations on local and national levels, working in both a studio and freelance environment.
Michael graduated from California State University, Chico with a bachelors degree in Visual Communication Design.
Kelsey has a variety of experience involving social media, law enforcement communications, and graphic design. Kelsey has a passion for researching and understanding social media trends, developing community engagement strategies, and facilitating media relationships.
Prior to joining Elmets Communications, Kelsey worked with the Outreach Unit of the UC Davis Police Department where she managed their social media campaigns, organized outreach activities, and coordinated safety presentations.
She graduated from University of California, Davis with degrees in Communication and Psychology, and a minor in English. She is an alumnus of the California Aggie Marching Band, where she served as the General Manager of the organization.
Gabby is a communications specialist passionate about public relations and social media. With significant communications experience, she uses her knowledge and skills to support the development and execution of strategic public relations campaigns for clients across a variety of industries.
Before joining the Elmets team, Gabby created compelling social media marketing campaigns for companies eager to grow their online presence. Earlier, she worked as an admissions advisor for the UC Davis Office of Undergraduate Admissions, helping to facilitate both in-person and online communications.
Gabby graduated from the University of California, Davis earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication with a double minor in Psychology and Chicano Studies. She is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Strategic Communication.
